National workshops – Latvia

Workshop objectives

The workshop was aimed at introducing the project and its outputs to representatives of the Ministry of Health and other institutions involved in programming and managing ESIF linked to health as intended end-users of the outputs developed. Apart from that, the workshop was aimed at identifying health areas with funding potential under thematic objectives in the 2014-2020 programming period and at opening a discussion on the effective role of the Latvian Ministry of Health in supporting effective implementation of ESIF in the area of health.


Workshop content

The main issues discussed at the workshop were as follows:

  • Project outputs
  • ESIF investment critical success factors
  • 2014-2020 programming period specifics
  • Health funding potential in the 2014-2020 programming period
  • Role of the Ministry of Health in ESIF management and implementation in health

Workshop participants

The audience consisted of representatives of various institutions within the implementation structure comprising representatives of beneficiaries. More specifically, the group consisted of:

  • Representatives of the Ministry of Health
  • Representative of the Ministry of Finance (Managing Authority)
  • Representatives of the Central Finance and Contracting Agency
  • Representatives of national health institutions
  • Representatives of beneficiaries (mainly hospitals)
  • Representative of DG Health and Food Safety

Workshop outcome

The main outcome of the presentation was the group activity which allowed participants to define areas where beneficiaries need support from the Ministry of Health to effectively implement ESIF and to achieve positive feedback from the evaluation of the effectiveness of health investments in 2023. Participants also appreciated the presentation on health funding potential and recommendations on how to achieve effective implementation.
