National workshops – Greece

Workshop objectives

The workshop was aimed at introducing the project and its outputs to representatives of the Ministry of Health and other institutions involved in programming and managing ESIF linked to health as intended end-users of the outputs developed. Apart from that, the workshop was aimed at opening discussion between various institutions about effective ways of supporting successful implementation of health priorities under ESIF and specific roles of respective institutions in this model.


Workshop content

The main issues discussed at the workshop were as follows:

  • Project outputs
  • New concepts in health
  • Clarification of the ESIF implementation system in Greece
  • Principles of effective coordination in the ESIF implementation structure
  • Principles of effective management of complex projects
  • ESIF investment critical success factors
  • Project application assessment and relevant indicators in health projects

Workshop participants

Participants were mostly directors of relevant departments at the Ministry of Health and directors of regional health authorities. Directors and executives from the Managing Authority of OP(s) covering health issues also participated as observers.

More specifically, the group consisted of:

  • Mainly directors of departments within the Ministry of Health
  • Directors of seven Regional Health Authorities
  • Representatives of the Managing Authority
  • Director of the Intermediate Body for Health
  • Three representatives of the European Commission (DG SANTE and DG EMPL)

Workshop outcome

The main outcome of the presentation was the group activity which allowed the representatives of various institutions within the Greek ESIF implementation structure, including the representatives of regional authorities, to share their ideas on which competencies the Ministry of Health shall have in the period 2014-2020 to be able to efficiently support the implementation of national health priorities. The participants also discussed the effective coordination structure of respective Operational Programmes to reflect specific conditions in Greece.
