Use of ESIF in health in EU member states

The health sector overlaps with many different areas of public interest such as social matters, education, employment, public administration or research & development.

Types of health investments and their specific focus differ from country to country and reflect the individual situation of the health systems and Structural Funds management in the respective EU Member States. The following scheme introduces the types of approaches identified across the EU.

Contrary to the programming period 2007-2013, ESIF ceased to be a source of investments in infrastructure priorities, which do not have any value added in terms of cost-effectiveness and health system efficiency. Health infrastructure investments in the Member States are supported mainly as an integral part of health system reforms.

Specific information about the use of ESIF in health investments for the programming periods 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 can be found in the relevant sub-sections.
