About the project

The project was conducted within the framework of a tender action on the provision of support for the effective implementation of European Structural and Investment Funds for health investments, managed by the Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) on behalf of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), being delivered by EY. The project is funded from the Health Programme 2008-2013.

In general, the project aims at providing assistance in the area of health care to EU Member States in the programming of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in the new programming period 2014-2020 in the EU28.

The project objectives can be summarized as follows:

  • To support the Member States and their efforts to tap into the potential of ESIF 2014-2020 for health investments and to manage ESIF support for health in a better and more effective way.
  • To promote an effective implementation of actions in the health sector which will have a major positive impact on the wider population’s access to quality and sustainable health care in EU Member States.
  • To build knowledge of the use of ESIF for health in the new programming period 2014-2020.

The project spreads the acquired knowledge of the use of ESIF for health in the new programming period 2014-2020 through the managerial and technical tools for effective health investments presented in the Guide and the Toolkit (both available through this webpage). Also, it provides practical support for the use of Structural Funds for Member States through visits to 12 EU Member States, two regional workshops and the launch of the webpage together with possible mentoring provided to Member States, should they be interested.

The webpage and tools presented here should mainly serve the Ministries of Health and Managing Authorities and other bodies involved in programming and managing of the Structural Funds in health. Their use should support the effective use of ESIF for the area of health in the new programming period.
